This is a handsome mahogany tray measuring 8 1/8 inches x 6 5/16 inches having a shallow recess both top and bottom and a stair step edge molding adding to the illusion of a thin tray.

This has the added feature of a mahogany wood flap that has a thicker center and thin edges meaning that it is beveled to a thin edge which enables the action of being able to push on one of the outside edges while it is nested in the tray causing it to raise to just above the top edge of the tray allowing for a number of subtle moves to be accomplished.

The reverse side of the mahogany flap is covered with a single sheet of newspaper and in the newsprint mention is made of Pasadena Taxpayers expecting to share with the State of California whatever prosperity they enjoy. The purpose of the newspaper originally was so that the flap could be left behind laying on a folded newspaper on the table without notice.
