This beautiful mirror 15 3/4" wide x 17 3/4" high caused quite a sensation when first seen and I can still remember the crowds around the display booth of Howard Schwarzman at magic conventions. The reason people were huddled around was that they were indeed seeing a miracle happen before their very eyes with lots of speculation on how this miracle was achieved.

First the mirror was tapped about the surface with a wood wand or dowel so as not to mar the surface proving it was indeed a genuine mirror of ornate design. A sponge ball was taken up to the mirror and let go of and it seemed to be held as though it were a magnet to steel. As the hand moved away the sponge would slowly grow smaller but what one was witnessing was the passage of the sponge through the looking glass and it was retrieved from the backside and brought around!

To further the emphasis on this miracle a silk would be treated in the same fashion with the performer even stepping away from the mirror and the silk taking a life of its own and pulling itself into the mirror! Even at the seeming high price at the time the few mirrors available were quickly snapped up.
