A dial is shown with 13 different cards clipped around its edge and placed upon a spindle on an easel type stand. A packet of cards are shown and shuffled followed by having someone insert a knife in the stack and remove the three cards that fall below the knife blade and pass them on to three spectators. The dial is given a spin and the card that lands upon the arrow point at the bottom of the easel is removed and placed in a houlette. This action is repeated with two more cards and two more spins of the dial.

The three cards in the houlette are removed and shown one at a time asking if anyone has a duplicate of this and naturally one of the three will verify they have! This is repeated with the next and last card demonstrating the dial has picked out three duplicates of the three original selected cards! The dial is turned around and shown that these are the three cards that are missing from the dial.
