This was one of the first made. Some of the original ad copy follows: In 1908, a young man set out on the road to play the small towns of rural America. His driving ambition and dream was to become rich and famous as a psychic and mindreader. With guts and talent, from the bayous of Louisiana to the glitter of Hollywood, he fulfilled his dream. His bank account skyrocketed; his appointment book read like the pages of "Who's Who".
Early in his career, he realized the need for a perfect method of gaining information in a manner above suspicion. He bought all the tables made, but they all depended upon carbon, revolving turntables, or impressions and had to be reset before each use. After close to 30 years of experimentation, he finally succeeded. He had the perfect Psychic Table. Some time ago we acquired this table, with the promise that it would not be reproduced during his lifetime. We are now released from this promise.
For the select few - mindreader, psychic or private reader - we present the foolproof, logical way of securing information - literally light years ahead of anything previously seen. At a beautiful desk, which could easily grace the finest home, the spectator is seated alone. The solid plate glass top of the desk is completely bare - no blotters, pen holders or other items. Using any unprepared paper, slate or pad, the spectator writes questions, names, dates, places, etc. The spectator never allows the writing to leave their possession; it is not folded, placed in an envelope, etc. The performer returns, opens the desk drawer slightly and removes a crystal, incense burner, pen or whatever. This simple, normal action delivers to the performer complete contents of the paper the spectator is holding. Imagine the limitless possibilities this opens to you. The table does all the work, you simply supply the showmanship.
A spectacular example of master furniture making, handcrafted in quality oak and accented with two tone inlaid parquet, the table is also perfect for use as a writing desk, game or accent table. Standing 31 1/2" high, its top measures 34 1/2" x 22 1/2" and is covered with plate glass (a detail not to be missed by the observant spectator). It truly is a subtly elegant piece of furniture bespeaking quality; the price of a similar "normal" table from an interior design store would be very close to ours. Easily portable, with removable legs. As this is not an assembly line product and each is individually made, production is limited.
Final points: No impressions of any kind. Will withstand rigid examination. No suspicious moves or actions. No upside down reading, turntables, or any of the previous principles uses. No resetting - can be repeated immediately as many times as you wish. Drawer has regular and automatic secret lock. Treat this table as you would any fine piece of furniture and it will last far longer than one lifetime.
